"Sisters" helping Sisters

Vicki Quade

Vicki Quade learned a lot growing up Catholic. It was in the southwest suburbs of Chicago that she found herself shaped by the sisters who taught her. Years later she decided to give back to the sisters, after her co-written show, “Late Nite Catechism”, became an international hit.

After each performance of her successful comedy, the “sister” leading the show invites audience members to donate towards the retirement needs of sisters around the country. Our own elderly Benedictine sisters have been one of the many religious orders who have been recipients of their generosity. Over the last 15 years, we have received $171,712 in 137 separate donations. Every time we receive a donation from Vicki we think “WOW!” and are humbled.

The show has raised significant awareness of the plight of retired sisters who often did not receive retirement benefits for their ministries and now find themselves in need of significant financial resources. The show has also done a world of good in terms of highlighting the important but often overlooked impact of women religious on individuals and society.

Since its opening night in 1993, the show has received numerous accolades for its on-point humor, balanced with a deep respect for women religious. The Chicago Reader calls it “gloriously funny” and the New York Times calls it an “uproarious piece of interactive theater.” Since the initial production, Vicki has written a number of other similarly successful shows.

Vicki has generously offered half-price tickets to our Benedictine friends and alumnae for "Bible Bingo" or "Late Nite Catechism" that are both currently playing at the Royal George Theater. If you would like to purchase tickets, simply call the Royal George box office at 312.988.9000 or go on ticketmaster.com and use the discount code “OSB.” Get your tickets soon! This special only lasts for the summer—from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Learn more about the shows at www.nuns4fun.com.
